LADY OF THE MONTH : NOT DRESSED AS LAMB

LADY OF THE MONTH
CATHERINE OF NOT DRESSED AS LAMB

Catherine is my blogger hero, it is as simple as that. Even before I started blogging I read her incredible blog Not Dressed As Lamb and Catherine keeps on inspiring, surprising and supporting me ever since. She is an ambassador and voice for the 40+ age group also when it comes to make brands aware of fabulous mature bloggers - thank you for including me!

Her cheerful approach to colours, her style mix and ability to turn each look into her very own edgy vintage style are unique. And her beautiful hair is always the icing on the cake!

But not only her outfits keep on impressing me, also her tutorials when it comes to take photos (she has a degree in photography!) and her social media experience are most helpful. How to take photos in the rain? Find her tipps here! Optimizing photos? Have a look here. Not sure about Google+ yet? Here Catherine tells you how to create eye-catching posts.

There is one more point I have to mention: Despite her busy schedule as a full-time blogger, Catherine always takes the time to answer any (stupid) questions I have. She shares her own experience and is an incredibly open and supportive woman. Thank you so much, Catherine!

I almost forgot... as a true Brit, Catherine has a great sense of humour. You must see her annual Bloopers and Outtakes - I value her even higher now!

LADY OF THE MONTH
CATHERINE OF NOT DRESSED AS LAMB

Would you share some personal information? Where do you come from and live?

I’m a British Londoner/Southerner, and I describe myself as “a Londoner now living in the country”. No kids, but my husband and I live quite near to all my extended family who we see quite regularly for family get togethers. I’ve basically always been a busy person - I’m quite creative having studied art and photography, so I’m always working on a creative project or two. I’m a big keep fit fan and love running and yoga, and I’m also into astronomy, travel, theatre, cinema, reading… the list goes on.

Why did you start blogging and what is your message? What goals do you have with your blog?

I started the blog in 2011 on my 39th birthday - it was initially only intended as a one year project to see if I could improve my style as I approached my 40th. My favourite things have always been photography and fashion, and when I was younger I always loved creative writing - a fashion blog seemed a natural thing to start to combine those two loves, and encourage me to pick the third back up again.

I actually set my blog goals for this year in a post a few weeks ago: to organise a blogger meet up (which is definitely happening), model for a fashion brand (Annette: also this Catherine already achieved; have a look at her behind the scenes post of her model shooting with Fever London on her new post here) and to become the most successful over 40 fashion blogger in the UK (Catherine: whatever that may entail - Annette: I cannot think of anybody else!), amongst other things. Long term, I’d really like to write a book related to the blog. I have a few ideas I’m working on with that in mind, so watch this space!

An meinem 39. Geburtstag 2011!

How would you describe your style? Do you follow trends? What makes an outfit truly yours?

I usually describe my style as “Eclectic, erring on the side of preppy with a twist”. I do follow trends, but it doesn’t mean I’ll wear all of them. I pick and choose which ones I wear - if I like it and it suits me then I’ll usually go for it. This winter I’ve been all over the check coat trend as well as blush pink and tartan. I’m not sure what exactly makes an outfit mine, but it usually involves a lot of colour and/or pattern - you won’t find me in head-to-toe minimalist black.

Wie würdest Du Deinen Stil beschreiben? Folgst Du Trends? Was macht Deinen eigenen Stil aus?

Are you a full time blogger? Who takes your photos? How do you balance your time dedicated to the blog with your regular job?

I’ve been a full time blogger since last summer, but it was never my original intention to make blogging my career even until right before I made the decision to go freelance. My husband takes all my photos and he has got really good over the last couple of years (of course I taught him all he knows!) - it really helps working with the same person all the time. I spend a huge amount of time blogging, but if I didn’t have to work for money I’d still want to do it anyway. I’m finally doing a job I love as much as I would a hobby but getting paid to do it at the same time - a dream I never thought I would ever see realised.

Have you ever attended a blogger conference, a major blogger event or an international Fashion Week? Do you occasionally meet fellow bloggers?

I’ve done two London Fashion Weeks now and a few blogger conferences/events (Next and RewardStyle for example) - I’m not super confident when I don’t know many people at an event so I’m always nervous beforehand. But you have so much in common with other bloggers that it’s so easy to talk to people, and I love that part about it.

Except for my “London Fashion Week buddy”, I’ve not met up with any bloggers other than at events - I don’t really know of any bloggers that live near me. But I hope that will change once I get to know more bloggers after the meet up I’m organising for later this year.

Do you prefer online shopping or do you love extensive shopping trips?

Easy - online, every time. I can’t bear “going shopping”. The only things I buy in the shops are the odd impulse buy when I’m dashing past a shop window to get somewhere fast!

Do you shop designer clothes, high street, outlet centres or thrift shops? Or a mix of all?

I don’t do designer at all - it’s not within my budget, plus I’m accident prone and will ruin something expensive, or just as likely to lose it. I think about 70% of my wardrobe is from Asos (I’m not exaggerating) and I love high street brands: Topshop, Zara, New Look, etc. I’m a big vintage fan and love browsing eBay for bargains; although I dislike high street shopping I do like rummaging in charity (thrift) shops.

Bevorzugst Du online shopping oder gehst Du lieber in normale Geschäfte?

Ganz einfach immer online.

Do you have any fashion or style icon?

My faves right now are Rooney Mara - I love the fact that she’s edgy and delicate at the same time - and Kristen Wiig, who just looks amazing in everything she wears. As for a true icon of style, there’s no one like Audrey Hepburn. I’ve loved her since I first saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1987 - I remember the impression it made on my 15 year old self very clearly.

Which blogs inspire you? What are your daily reads?

I follow dozens of blogs and it’s so hard to pick just a few, but I’ll go back to B.Jones Style, Delightfully Tacky, Eat.Sleep.Wear and Frassy time and time again. My favourite bloggers aren’t necessarily the most well known - I always look forward to new posts from Rachel the Hat, Prosecco & Plaid and The Marcy Stop.

Thank you so much Annette for asking me to take part!

Welche Blogs inspirieren Dich, welche liest Du regelmäßig?
